Macon first started at Takla Engineering in 2022 with a part-time summer internship following a site visit Andy made to his parent’s house to address structural foundation issues. He returned full-time the next summer and was hired as a field engineer the following winter during his senior year of college at North Carolina State University while completing his degree in civil engineering where he graduated magna cum laude in May of 2024.

Following successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam in April of 2023, Macon was licensed as an Engineer Intern which granted him additional responsibilities in field work. He also passed the Civil Professional Engineering exam in April of 2025 and continues to work under the mentorship of Fred and Andy to gain the experience required for full licensure as a professional engineer.

While on the job, Macon divides his time between field work that ranges from small scale renovations to large new builds, and design work mostly consisting of decks, porches, and additions. Moving forward, he is working to gain familiarity with larger scale design requirements of full residences and custom construction. His favorite part of working with Takla Engineering is learning something new just about every day and becoming a more capable and confident engineer. Outside of work, Macon enjoys restoring cast iron cookware, maintaining his aging Toyota Tacomas, and spending time with his girlfriend Claire and their two cats.
